A full-time Registered Nurse is needed to provide comprehensive school health services in the Jefferson Parish school district, serving students across one to two schools with locations on both East and West Banks of New Orleans, LA. This contract position runs ASAP through May 22, 2026, following the school calendar with a 35-hour workweek (7 hours per day, Monday through Friday, plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch). Successful candidates will have previous school nursing experience and be skilled in managing complex student health needs, including tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube care, diabetic management, and individualized education program (IEP) support. Expertise in conducting health screenings, maintaining meticulous health records, training and delegating tasks to non-medical staff, and excellent communication are essential. A passion for student health and wellness is vital, alongside professionalism and the ability to adapt to school assignment locations based on district needs. Qualifications and Skills: Registered Nurse license required; BSN preferred, ASN accepted Prior school nursing experience mandatory Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets Competent in medical procedures, documentation, and student health advocacy Ability to train non-medical personnel and collaborate effectively with staff Willingness to work at any assigned school location within the district Ability to pass district-required drug screening and fingerprinting Responsibilities: Deliver daily nursing and health services to one to two schools Monitor and manage students with medical needs such as tracheostomies, G-tubes, and diabetes Maintain accurate student health records and documentation Conduct student health screenings and assist with IEP planning and implementation Train and supervise non-medical staff on health protocols Communicate with families, staff, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive student well-being Location: New Orleans, LA (Jefferson Parish school district, East and West Banks) This position offers the opportunity to impact student health positively and work within a dynamic school environment.
