job provides diagnostic care according to departmental guidelines
and standing orders under the direction of the physician. Enables
the operations of the section, provides technical expertise with
procedures, and serves as patient advocate. Maintains complete
knowledge of pacemaker/ Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
(ICD) follow-up care, cardio-beepers and pacemaker/ICD database
systems, and Electrocardiogram (EKG) and interpretation. Provides
quality reports for physician interpretation, dictation, and
distribution.EducationRequired - Registered nurse diploma.Preferred
- Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing.Work ExperienceRequired
- -1 year of experience with pacemakers and/or ICDs.Experience
interpreting cardiac arrhythmia and accurately interpreting 12 lead
EKG and rhythm strips.CertificationsRequired - Current register
nurse (RN) license in state of practice.Basic Life Support (BLS)
from the American Heart Association.Preferred - Cardiac Technician
certification or higher.Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular
Life Support (ACLS).Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Understanding of the critical nature and condition of the
inpatient and how pacing parameters may affect the acute
illness.
- Knowledge of pacemaker functions.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based
applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability
to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels
of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Ability to be self-directed.
- Ability to travel throughout and between facilities and work a
flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call
availability).Job Duties
- Manages patient flow in and out of exam rooms. -
- Explains the procedures to the patient before they are
performed and makes every effort to ensure patient's comfort.

- Performs wound checks using aseptic techniques with suture
removal when needed 7 to 10 days after implant of device. -
- Performs telephonic device analysis 1 week and 4 weeks after
every implant and every 4 months following or based on physician
request; to telephone the patient following the Medical Center's
service standards and behaviors requesting the patient transmit EKG
(magnet & non-magnet) over the phone. -
- Assumes responsibility for interrogating devices for hospital
inpatients as per physician order.
- Operates the pacemaker/ICD database system ensuring its
accurate use at all times.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including
but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to
the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be
performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
